Harold Dean Guffey

   Harold Dean Guffey, 68, of Forest City, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

     Harold was born August 29, 1955, in Rutherford County. He was reared by his maternal grandparents, Guilford and Eliza Tate. He attended both East High & Chase High. He worked several textile mill jobs, drove semi-trucks over the roads, taught truck driving at Isothermal Community College, was known as “Key Man” when he worked at Ace Hardware in Forest City, and he was a delivery man and pharmacy technician  at Smith’s Drugs in Forest City.

     He loved to read, especially National Geographic, Smithsonian and Archaeology magazines. He read his Bible and sets of encyclopedias. He loved anything by the author, Tom Clancy. He was also an avid viewer and collector of Godzilla movies, sci-fi, and superhero films. He enjoyed auto races, football games, all kinds of music, and riding horses when he could.     

    Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 50 years, Pamela Guffey, of Forest City; his sister, Linda Edwards of Ellenboro; sister-in-law, Marilyn Jones of Forest City; half-brother, Danny Lane; half-sisters, Alice “Sissy” Marlowe and Lucy Carpenter, all of Lincoln County; nephews, Daniel Edwards of Ellenboro, Shawn James of Dobson, NC, Brandon James of Forest City, and David Baynard of Gaffney, SC; nieces, Diane Tate of Ellenboro, Teresa Clapp of Mebane , NC, and numerous other great and great-great nephews and nieces, and many cousins.

     He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, birth parents; brothers, Horace Joseph “Joe” Guffey, Jr., and infant brother, Marion Guffey; and sister, Brenda Guffey; brothers-in-law, Johnny Edwards, and Ronnie Jones; aunts, Alice Smith of Charlotte, NC, Betty Jo Wilson of Fort Mills, SC; an uncle, Norris Tate; nephews, John Littlejohn, III, and Brian James.

      No arrangements have been put into place at this time.
